Detonating Cord is a flexible exploding fuse based on a core of PETN. It is manufactured in a variety of types with different core loads. Saudi Chemical supplies detonating cords for initiation of blasts with core loads of 5 g/m and 12 g/m. Detonating Cord with 5 g/m and 12 g/m core load are excellent for initiation of surface blasting rounds. For underground blasting, 5 g/m cord is suitable for bunch initiation of SANEL LP rounds.
Uses
- Initiation of primary explosives and boosters (12 g/m core load).
Advantages
Applications of DETONEX Detonex 5 (with 5 g/m core load) and Detonex 12 (with 12 g/m core load) are used for initiation of blasting rounds. Large multiple row blasts can be executed by using cord relays (CR 25) to obtain the right delay between the rows. The advantage of using detonating cord in the blasthole is that the detonating cord ensures that all explosive in the holes detonate, even if there are water pockets or other obstructions in the hole that cuts off the explosives string. The strength of Detonex 12 initiates any type of explosive that it is in contact with. Detonex 5 can also be used for surface initiation of shock tube systems where the firing sequence is determined by the different delay elements in the detonator in the hole. In tunnel blasting with shock tube initiation (SANEL LP), Detonex 5 can be used for bunch connection of up to 20 shock tubes in each bunch, a fast and reliable method for initiation of a blast.
